Jeff’s Letter from March 2023
The grapevines are still hibernating, but the daffodils are announcing the arrival of spring. I still wear a warm hat in the morning but not long into the afternoon. Today the sun is bright but Placerville is scheduled to get close to a foot of snow over the next three days. Gotta love mixed signals.
One signal you can count on is the March release from Jeff Runquist Wines; three hearty reds, Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante Bouschet, and Syrah to help usher out the last weeks of winter and a Pinot Noir for Easter Dinner. Our 2022 Rose is also available. We returned to Sangiovese as the base grape for this wine and the bright crisp flavors reflect the natural acidity of this varietal. The color is perfect, pink and not too dark. The aromas of citrus and passion fruit and the refreshing nature of this wine will see us through the warm patio months in the not-too-distant future.
Five terrific new wines, five great reasons to visit us in the foothills. I suspect chains won’t be required.
